His Excellency Shri. K.R. Narayanan, then President of India inaugurated it on September 20, 1997 in the presence of Dr.Kalaignar Karunanidhi, then Chief Minister of Tamilnadu and the University started from October 3, 1997 onwards. The University was named after the Architect of the Indian Constitution Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The University is recognized by the Bar Council of India ( BCI ) and University Grants Commission ( UGC ) ( Sec. 2f and 12b of the UGC Act. ).
