WHY WE STARTED Hammock Hostels wasn’t born out of a snap decision. It began as a feeling. Years ago, our co-founder Apurva stayed at a hostel in San Francisco that left a lasting impression on him. It wasn’t just the city or the building — it was the feeling of connection, warmth and belonging the hostel created. It made him feel seen, welcomed and inspired. In that moment, he knew he wanted to build something that could make others feel the same way someday. Life moved on, careers happened and almost a decade passed before that idea resurfaced again. Connection Warmth Belonging When Priyanka Entered the Picture That’s when our second co-founder, Priyanka, entered the picture. What started as a brief webinar interaction slowly turned into coffee catchups, long conversations about travel, culture and community, and eventually the buried idea found its way back to life. The Leap of Faith Apurva convinced Priyanka to move back to India from Australia and take a leap of faith together. And that leap became Hammock Hostels.
